Karen Bate, Founder & President
A former journalist and Congressional press secretary with more than 25 years experience in nonprofit and corporate communications, Karen Bate rebrands companies and nonprofits; positions organizations to achieve their mission and objectives; manages the design and use of websites, publications and videos; garners key media placements; and harnesses the variety of social media tools and influencers to tell her clients’ stories and inspire others to support them. “Great Ideas for Good Causes” is not just a company tagline, it is the guiding philosophy of her work.
Karen is also Founder & Chief Inspiration Officer for Awesome Women Entrepreneurs (AWE), a professional networking group with more than 100 women business owners in Arlington, VA and new chapters starting around the DC region and the U.S. in 2017. She co-hosts the weekly AWE Radio Show, and serves on the Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC) Development Committee, as well as on the Board of Advisors for Amman Imman: Water is Life. An active member of the Arlington Chamber of Commerce and other professional groups, Karen is also a 2010 graduate of Leadership Arlington.
Mariela Echeverria, Social Media, Graphic Design
A graduate of George Mason University with a B.A. in Communications, Mariela provides social media, graphic design, event coordination and brand development support for KB Concepts. She has a passion for innovation and is always researching the latest communications trends.
Mariela is an Arlington native who loves the area and its easy access to downtown DC. During her free time, she enjoys exercising and volunteering at a local animal rescue organization.
LeeAnne holds a Master of Science in marketing from the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona, Spain and a BA in marketing from the University of North Carolina Wilmington. With 7+ years experience with nonprofits and small businesses, she delivers innovative campaign strategy and content fueled by careful research and data collection. Currently based in Frankfurt, Germany, LeeAnne brings international experience and perspective to her work with KB Concepts.
When not crunching the numbers or studying emerging trends, LeeAnne can be found traveling the world, sampling the best food and coffee, exploring with her Labrador Tug, or discovering new music at live shows. LeeAnne is a 2013 graduate of Leadership Arlington’s Young Professional Program.
Antonio is a film/TV/music composer, film/video producer and sound engineer who provides critical weekly support to the Awesome Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) Radio Show and Podcast, and also handles KB Concepts’ client video needs.
Antonio’s film and video work showcases his technical knowledge of cameras, lenses, lighting and sound, as well as his creativity in writing, editing and all aspects of production. In addition to supporting AWE Radio and other programs at WERA FM, he also hosts his own show, Voices from the DMV, showcasing the wonderful array of new musical talent in the Washington metro region.
Catherine MacDonald, Strategy & Research
Catherine is an award winning writer and communications professional with deep experience in social media, website and data management, research, writing and editing. Now specializing in the field of aging, Catherine published and presented, under KB Concepts P.R., a white paper on the challenges facing aging ex-offenders following their release from prison.
Her publications experience also includes serving as editor of a monthly glossy magazine and managing a twice weekly newspaper. Catherine holds a BA in Journalism and an MS in Gerontology from Virginia Commonwealth University.
